The Fort Clifton Festival began in May of 1976 as part of the Bicentennial celebration and has become an annual event, held on Mother's Day weekend. The festival is family-oriented and educational, portraying the historic significance of the fort and its importance in the Civil War to the Petersburg defense line.
Arts and crafts persons sell a variety of hand made items. Civil War relic exhibits are on display, along with re-enactors and demonstrations. Children's rides and concessions are available each day of the festival. Local civic groups sell hot dogs, sausage and peppers, hamburgers, funnel cakes, pizza, barbecue, french fries, ice cream, baked goods, and more. Door prizes and raffles will be held each day.
