| Description: | From African Landing Commemoration Day Website: The City of Hampton has Proclaimed August 20th of each year as African Landing Day.
It was the latter part of August 1619 when the first ship bringing enslaved Africans came ashore at Point Comfort in Hampton. These first Africans to arrive in English North America would lead to the beginning of the institution of slavery in America.
Come help us to REMEMBER the first arrival, and our ancestors who lost their lives through the Middle Passage, and endured 246 years of bondage.
