| Description: | This will continue the exciting lecture series occurring periodically during the course of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and Battle of Hampton Roads. These lectures will highlight the most important dates surrounding the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia. Mariners' Museum staff and volunteers will provide an informative, illustrated lecture on Ironclad Steam Warships. The USS Monitor was launched from Greenpoint, Brooklyn on January 30, 1862. To most everyone's amazement, the strange little ironclad actually floated! Join us as we mark the 150th anniversary of the Monitor's birth and the 37th anniversary of the establishment of NOAA's Monitor National Marine Sanctuary. This event is free with museum admission.
